The Awful Road Trip Home

As you can clearly see, our road trip back home started out quite lovely.  We made it all the way from Bloomington to Fair Oaks Farm (which I highly recommend to anyone with kids traveling on 65! Next time we promised Sonoma we wold take her into the cow birthing barn when we don't have Dixie with us ) We ate a yummy lunch inside the cheese factory of grilled cheese sandwiches, and we all got ice cream treats for dessert.  We sat outside and enjoyed some quick sunshine before hopping back on 65 North to Chicago.

Shortly after getting on 65 North, we noticed a service light that came on.  After figuring out what it was and calling our Roadside Assistance, we were told to get off the interstate immediately, as the car was going to soon die.  Unfortunately, we had no other option than to stop at a pretty awful gas station in Gary, Indiana.    It was the longest two hours waiting for a tow truck and then another car service to come rescue me and Marcus, our two sweaty babies and poor, overheated Dixie.  As you can see below, the girls made the best of the situation, having to be outside in the heat.  Sonoma was (mostly) all smiles.  We finally had our car towed back home, and we all made it home safe and sound, $500 later.  The car is in the repair shop right now, and I am anxiously waiting for it to get fixed so I can move on with my week and put our trip back home behind us.  We were especially bummed to miss one of our good friends' son's birthday parties on Sunday afternoon.  Despite our awful situation on Sunday, it could have been much worse.  I could have been by myself, it could have been at night, or it could have been in the middle of a snow storm.  And after watching all of the tragic Oklahoma tornado footage, I feel even more grateful to be with my family safe in our home.  We are all healthy, we have a beautiful roof over our heads, and I've been giving my girls extra hugs and kisses all day long.  I can't ask for anything more than that.
