Rough Patch

The last two weeks have been rather challenging in the Fischer household!  First up, our sweet dog, Dixie, was really sick and even had to stay a couple days in the Animal Hospital.  She woke up last week, extremely sick, and when she didn't get better, I immediately took her to the hospital.  She had lots of fluid in her intestines, two kidney stones, low white blood cell count, and her liver is not great.  After antibiotics, IVs and rest, I am happy to report she is better!  She is home and doing fine.  Thanks so much for all the thoughts and prayers for Dixie!  We know her days are limited, so we have been trying to mentally prepare ourselves for the worst, the best that we know how to do.

Poor thing spent the week in our downstairs bathroom

These girls love Dixie!

Right when Dixie got sick, I was battling yet another sinus infection.  Nothing serious, but sure enough really annoying.  I'm a on a wait list to see an ENT because I am getting so many sinus infections a year.

And the worst of all.......I mentioned previously about Cora's mosquito bite and the meds she was on that she had to stop taking.  Unfortunately, Cora has taken a turn for the worst.  Her doctor originally said the steroid would leave her system in up to 7 days.  However, she got so out of control, violent, upset that I couldn't take it one more day.  The doctor immediately sent us to the psychiatry department to see a therapist.  The therapist showed us medical journal articles about horrible reactions to the type of steroid she is on.  Right now she is extremely manic and it could go on for weeks, maybe a month.  A small percentage of people go through mania from the steroid.  It's so heart breaking to watch, because there is not much I can do.  The therapist is trying to talk through the episodes and scenarios and offer advice.  In the meantime I am trying to stay off the internet because I am reading lots of horrible stories about steroid reactions and effects.  Please pray for Cora.  I want my little sweet girl back.   Yesterday was our worst day yet.
