Summer Weekend

This weekend felt like a perfect, summer weekend:  grilling, swimming, biking and a festival all packed in two days!  We sure are trying to soak up every beautiful day we can as a family of three before our sweet baby girl arrives.  We know how drastically things will change in just two short months, but we cannot wait to meet our baby!  I was recently telling Marcus how much I loved our evening routine - he takes Sonoma out for a bike ride or a run while I prep and cook dinner in the peace and quiet.  And then we all sit down together at least 5 nights a week for a dinner at home.  However, I know that our schedule won't be that perfect once the baby comes.  My biggest goal right now is allowing Sonoma to do as many fun activities that we can possibly pack into each day, so she has lots of positive memories before life changes for all of us.

We took Sonoma to the city on Saturday so we could attend the Better Homes and Gardens and Weber Grill "Chill and Grill" Festival.  I'm not a huge festival person anymore (especially in the 90 degree heat being pregnant ), but I can honestly say this was the nicest, cleanest, well put together festival I have ever been to.  There was absolutely no riff-raff there at all.  A few of Chicago's newest and most popular restaurants with the best chefs had tasting booths set up.  There were also famous chefs doing grilling and cooking demonstrations, along with a lot of freebies!  The only negative of the day was that Sonoma was up all night with horrible pain of her 2 year molars coming in along with a fever.  We joked that this was the only time she has ever fallen asleep in her stroller.  I think she liked being out in the fresh air, with lots to see, to get her mind off all of her molar pain.

Walking to the band to dance

Only ones dancing - are you surprised?!

They had the cutest kids area where Sonoma made her own bug jar, complete with a fly that grows in water!  Kids could also decorate their own aprons.

Today we took Sonoma to the outdoor pool for the first time this season.  Sonoma and I bought pool passes for the summer and figured it would be a good deal since the pool is about three minutes away from our house.  I was surprised how awesome our pool was - there is a huge zero depth kids area, as well as two huge water slides and a lazy river!  Sonoma was a little traumatized from the lazy river ( as was I ) since there are water sprayers and huge buckets of water up above that spray you and pour down all over you unexpectedly!  Of course she got used to everything and had a great time.  As usual, it took both me and Marcus to carry Sonoma out and get her back in her car seat since she was kicking and screaming that she wanted to keep swimming.  Not even a yummy concession stand snack could bribe this girl today. . . .

Marcus got a bike tune-up from me and a bike carrier from my parents as an early birthday gift.  The bike was home and ready to ride as of last night, so we set up the trailer for Sonoma.  Today, after Sonoma's nap, she and Daddy went on their first bike ride together.  They had a blast.

How cute does she look here?  I wish I could ride in this thing.
